New Cradler: Neil

Since we started to profile every Cradler, retrospectively, it has taken us down the memory lane of how we all came together to build Cradle from scratch. Whereas every other Cradler had to, in one way or another, uproot their lives to work here, Neil came into our lives at a perfect time without having to buy a plane ticket.

Neil spent the first few years after graduating working for Orion Health, putting in the hours and shaping his career ambition to be an expert backend developer with starting his own company on the long term horizon. With that in mind he didn’t hesitate to get in touch with us when we put out an ad for a backend developer. His interview process spanned across two weeks where James and I ended up doing his in-person interview a few hours after we had landed in Auckland at a bar called “69” on K road, nonetheless. Young, ambitious, eager, scrappy, intelligent, and nervous, Neil was perfect for us.

Since his first day at Cradle he has done heaps of good work and took on the role of being the lead investigator on many new projects. He is still quirky as hell and has a tendency to go off on a tangent, guaranteeing a strong rebuke in the form of a “NEIL!”. We love him to death and can’t imagine him not coming to work each morning.

So what does Neil have to say about his experience so far:

1. How do you feel about your experience thus far working at Cradle?

So far my experience has been fast-paced, varied, and exciting as I’ve worked across building APIs, to the Admin Web Portal and the Desktop App.

2. What’s been your favourite project/part of working here?

My favourite part of working here is the flexibility to learn and try out new things, especially building awesome products!

3. Where do you see yourself in 2 years?

Over the next 2 years I’m most excited to see our user base grow along with the maturity and development of our product as we further venture into the smart call routing space.

4. What do you like to do outside of work?

Outside of work I play Ultimate, the occasional game of table tennis, and gym.
